the cool news: tomorrow night & Saturday night will be A Night in Vienna. i've been pretty sick (Andrea describes it pretty well...sorry man! next time i'll quarantine myself), but by God's grace, i am much recovered today. also, i was Very Scared at first for having to play a short (but high, high, high) solo during one of the pieces. thankfully again, it turns out there will be an amazing tenor singing the same melody line so i won't be as exposed. :) THEN i find out he is Tim Stiff -- a well-known vocalist who is really only back here because he's a Queen's alumni. WHAT'S MORE --- HE'S SUNG WITH PHANTOM OF THE OPERA FOR 7 YEARS!!!
oh gosh! now i am Very Scared again. hopefully i will do his voice at least some justice.
the not-so-cool news: after our first run-through together yesterday night, Tim sticks out his hand to shake mine. smiling absentmindedly, i accept the handshake and refocus my attention on the next piece. as he walks away through the door, however, my eyes widen in shock as i slowly bring my right hand up before my face. a slow-motion film whirs in my mind as i relive the moment between finishing the piece and shaking his hand; while he bowed to the applause, i had unthinkingly placed the full surface area of my palm up to my mouth to catch the brunt force of 3 heaving, hacking coughs!
"wait!" i want to call out to his retreating back, "sanitize your hands...!"
but of course it is too late.
alas, alas...if he gets sick anytime in the next 3 days, i will shrivel up and DIE.
