it was a wonderful Easter, full of evidence that Jesus is alive, & He walks beside us still!

B.C. & Wizard of Id cartoonist Johnny Hart passed away on April 7, 2007. it's cool that he brought God-issues into the quite un-God-friendly world of comics. i wasn't the biggest fan of his comic strips (nothing wrong with them, just not my style), but this one really got me:

here's an excerpt from a lovely letter i received from Ruth, a little girl supported through Compassion Canada. i was talking to a friend the other day about the concept of donating financial resources to organizations without witnessing firsthand exactly where the money goes. i do think it's important to check out an organization's motives, history, and general integrity. for me, Compassion Canada passes all those checkpoints and provides a tangible way to "to look after orphans and widows in their distress" while we are completing what God wants us to do here in a land of plenty. there is, of course, a small chance that this whole helping-kids-in-need thing is a big scam, and (suckers!) --you're actually supporting criminals. well, as in many life scenarios, i'd rather be an optimist than a cynic. it seems to increase the overall quality of life. ^^
one day, i hope to actually be "out there" actively serving & learning from those in need. until then, this is a real two-way treasure. i heartily encourage you, my dear reader, to re-check your investments -- conversations, knowledge, time, talents, energy. use wisely. :)

hey carmen =]... thanks for asking!... it's a hockey stick =]... just the shaft... i guess it does kinda look like a pencil =]...
it IS unfortunate that there are people out there who will take advantage of other people's generosity; of their love and compassion. it's always good to be on guard.
what hey, what a blessing it really is when you're able to experience first hand how others lives are transformed with a little bit of what we have to offer eh? :)
&til you get "out there", carmen, don't forget that there's still a lot of people in need here (: .. and perhaps not as many TILE-SIZED SPIDERS.
&i shouldnt even be talking to you because of what you attached to that email.
=P meanie.
i'm pretty sure i meant 'but hey' haha
hahaha...so there IS some love! :D yeah sorry, i couldn't resist... at least it was a cartoon!
you speak truly...there is SO much need here, even in kingston. i guess i'd modify "out there" to mean "that future period of my life when i can fully commit my time & resources to helping out" as opposed to sitting here writing essays about JDonne's prose pieces. >.< but it's a necessary stepping stone i guess ... 'tis a continual struggle (for me) to keep breaking the school bubble and getting reality checks. too easy to fall into complacency. but, thanks for the timely reminder! you're right, at least there are no DINNER-PLATE-SIZED spiders. because, you know, they do exist.
